Unification Ministry releases extensive records of inter-Korean talks in the 80s

Seoul’s Unification Ministry has released records of inter-Korean dialogue during the 1980s when power shifted from leader Kim Il-sung to Kim Jong-il .
This is the fifth release of such records with the first public disclosure taking place in 2022.
The ministry explained that releasing the records is aimed at meeting the public’s right to information and enhancing the transparency of policies regarding North Korea.
The ministry claims the 1980s records show active interactions between the South and North that even paved the path to the first cross-border family reunions in 1985.
The two Koreas held their first talks in the early 1970s.
