S&P 500 surpasses 5,500 for first time

Also in the U.S.
The S&P 500 closed trade on Tuesday above the 5-thousand 5-hundred level for the first time.
The index gained over 33 points from its previous session to end at 5-thousand-5-hundred-NINE-point-ZERO-ONE.
The record rally followed earlier remarks by U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell at a forum hosted by the European Central Bank in Portugal where he claimed the U.S. had made tangible progress in taming inflation.
His claim has since fueled widespread speculation about a possible interest rate cut by the Fed in September.
