All senior presidential secretaries offered on New Year’s Day to step down amid the political and social fallout from President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial law declaration on December 3rd.
The Presidential Office told reporters that on Wednesday, all senior aides, including Chief-of-Staff Chung Jin-suk, Policy Chief of Staff Sung Tae-yoon and National Security Advisor Shin Won-shik tendered their resignations to Acting President and Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok.
This comes a day after Choi decided to partially meet the opposition Democratic Party’s demands to fill the vacancies in the Constitutional Court, which would speed up the impeachment trial proceedings against President Yoon.
As Yoon’s presidential powers are suspended after the National Assembly voted to impeach him, his secretaries have been reporting to the acting president instead.
