S. Korea’s foreign reserves reach US$ 415.6 bil. in Dec. 2024, lowest year-end figure in five years

South Korea’s foreign reserves ended 2024 with a five-year low in December last year due to the depreciation of the Korean won against the greenback.
According to the Bank of Korea on Monday, the country’s foreign reserves as of the end of December reached 415-point-6 billion U.S. dollars.
While it’s an increase of 210 million dollars from the end of November, it marks the lowest year-end figure in five years.
A BOK official cited the strengthening U.S. dollar and government measures to ease foreign exchange market volatility among the reasons.
