South Korea’s exports set a new annual record last year on strong semiconductor shipments.
According to the trade ministry on Wednesday, outbound shipments reached nearly 684 billion U.S. dollars last year.
Exports of chips jumped almost 44 percent year-on-year to nearly 142 billion dollars.
Such a solid performance from semiconductors was driven by strong demand for premium products like high-bandwidth memory chips.
Exports to the U.S. reached a new annual high for the 7th straight year, growing over 10-point-5 percent.
Imports, meanwhile, fell 1-point-6 percent to 632 billion dollars, creating a trade surplus of almost 52 billion dollars.
