S. Korean Air Force to join Australia-led ‘Exercise Pitch Black,’ involving F-15K fighters

The South Korean Air Force is set to join a biennial multi-national exercise led by Australia, later this month.
Six F-15Ks and around a hundred troops will take off from an air base in Daegu on Wednesday, to join the “Exercise Pitch Black.”
During the seven-and-a-half-hour flight to an airbase in Darwin, northern Australia, the fighter jets will be refueled mid-air five times, using the KC-330 tanker transport aircraft.
The Air Force said Monday that this will be the first time that its fighter jets will be refueled in flight by a South Korean tanker, in order for them to participate in a multi-national exercise without a stopover.
16 countries including the U.S., Italy, and France also plan to join this year’s Exercise Pitch Black, which will take place for three weeks, from July 12th to August 2nd.
