Russian missile hits Ukraine children’s hospital as NATO leaders get set to meet in Washington

Russia’s most brutal bombardment of Ukrainian cities in some four months on Monday also targeted a children’s hospital in Kyiv.
Lee Seung-jae reports.

Russia launched large-scale airstrikes across Ukraine on Monday before U.S. President Joe Biden welcomes NATO leaders to Washington.
Citing Ukrainian officials, the Associated Press reported that at least 31 people were killed, and 154 others injured in the attacks.
Among the facilities that were hit, was a children’s hospital in Kyiv, which left civilians buried under the rubble of the partially collapsed building.
While the exact extent of the casualties has not yet been confirmed, Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said search and rescue operations are underway,.. and that seven of the 16 injured were children.
Another hospital was also struck in the Ukrainian capital, leaving at least four dead, as Ukrainian authorities say at least 20 people were killed in the capital alone.
The Ukrainian Air Force says that cruise missiles and Kinzhal hypersonic missiles were used in the deadly airstrikes, adding that 30 of the 38 missiles were shot down.
Monday’s attack targeting Kyiv was the first since the end of March this year.
Klitschko condemned the Russian attack, calling it “one of the worst attacks on the capital since the Russian invasion.”
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw, Russia, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin who ordered the airstrikes, must be held accountable for what he called an act of terror.
He added that Moscow responds to everything by attacking homes and hospitals.
The call for an emergency meeting comes as Russia took the rotating presidency at the UNSC beginning July 1st.
