Labour win UK general election, ending 14-years of Conservative rule

Over in the UK.
A shift in leadership has been set in motion as the Labour Party secures a landslide victory, ending 14 years of Conservative rule.
Labour leader and the country’s next prime minister, Sir Keir Starmer has vowed to focus on “national renewal.”
Cha Yun-kyung reports.

Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer celebrated a historic election win with his supporters and delivered a speech at the Tate Modern art gallery in central London on Friday, vowing to renew the country.
This came shortly after Conservative Party leader and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conceded defeat in the general election.
At this point, Labour had already surpassed the number of seats needed for a majority, 3-hundred-26, and as of 4:30 PM Korea time, had secured 4-hundred-10.

” We did it. You campaigned for it. You fought for it. You voted for it. And now it has arrived. Change begins now. Four and a half years of work changing the party. This is what it is for -a changed Labour Party, ready to serve our country, ready to restore Britain to the service of working people.”

The Tories had picked up 1-hundred-19 seats as of 4:30 PM Korea time en route to what exit polls forecast to be their worst performance in a general election in the party’s history.

“The Labour Party has won this general election, and I have called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory.”

Voters from across 6-hundred-50 constituencies in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland headed to the ballots on Thursday after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in May made a surprise move by calling for an early election.
However, due to economic turmoil, inflation, worsening public healthcare, and increased immigration, a Labour victory was predicted even before the election began.
Opinion polls consistently showed Labour with a lead of around 20 percentage points over the Conservatives, with support in the 40 percent range.

The Labour Party has focused on centrist policies and pledged to rebuild public welfare services and achieve economic growth.
