Hello and welcome to Press Perspective for this Monday December 30th here in Seoul.
I’m Min Sunhee.
A Jeju Air flight arriving from Bangkok skidded down the runway at Muan International Airport in southern Korea a little after nine Sunday morning before crashing into a concrete barrier and bursting into flames.
For more on this tragic event I have Chloe Borgnon with France 24 here in the studio.
Chloe thank you for being here.
I also have Steven Borowiec with Nikkei Asia with us.
Steven welcome back.
1) Chloe, let’s begin with details about the plane crash.
2) Steven, I believe the cause of the crash has yet to be confirmed, but what has been shared thus far, and what are pundits saying about the possible cause?
3) Chloe, the stories of loss are heartbreaking with many of the passengers being family members returning from end-of-year trips from Bangkok.
What more can you tell us?
4) And Steven, what has been the response from the international community to this tragedy in the country?
5) Chloe, Sunday’s plane crash is looking to be Korea’s worst in decades.
Do explain this for us, and also what do we know about the Boeing 737 plane?
6) Steven, this tragedy has placed acting President Choi Sang-mok’s leadership under much spotlight as it took place just two days after his designation.
I believe he was at the site of the tragic event yesterday.
What has he been saying?
7) Chloe, speaking of the acting president.
Some pundits claim his handling of this very painful event may shield him from impeachment.
Do tell us more.
8) Steven, President Yoon Suk Yeol, for his part, took to his social platform to share his condolences while defying a third summons for questioning on Sunday.
What is the latest with regard to the investigation into insurrection charges against him?
9) Meanwhile Chloe, how is the impeachment trial against the president proceeding?
10) Steven, do you expect some common ground between the rival political parties amid this very challenging time of national tragedy and political instability?
All right.
