Gov’t plans to get carmakers to attach cameras near pedals to clarify accident causes

The government will ask car manufacturers to seek ways to attach cameras near pedals to identify the exact causes of repetitive car accidents here in South Korea, allegedly from sudden acceleration or brake failure.
The transport ministry said on Tuesday it plans to advise domestic and foreign car manufacturers to attach cameras to vehicles sold here.
But it added that it will not be mandatory as this could raise car costs and lead to trade conflicts.
It is also reviewing ways to induce drivers to install the cameras, and reduce car insurance payments for those who do so.
