EU confirms provisional tariff on Chinese EVs, final decision expected in October

The European Union on Thursday confirmed a provisional tariff increase on imported Chinese electric vehicles.
The new tariffs range from 17-point-4 percent to 37-point-6 percent in addition to the pre-existing 10 percent duties.
EU officials say this is due to “unfair subsidies” by the Chinese government that have given them an advantage compared to the bloc’s own manufacturers.
China’s Ministry of Commerce said Thursday it hoped to reach an agreement soon ahead of the EU’s final decision in October.
The EU is the largest overseas market for China’s EV industry.
