We begin with an update on the truck attack that killed 14 people in New Orleans.
The attack, which happened in the early hours of New Year’s Day in the city’s bustling downtown area, is likely to be the act of a lone perpetrator.
This comes from a Thursday briefing by the FBI, which clarified initial fears of accomplices still at large. Investigators say they have found no evidence suggesting other individuals were involved.
However, the FBI did confirm that the suspect, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, appears to have been “hundred percent inspired” by the Islamic State, commonly known as ISIS. Authorities based this on videos posted by Jabbar before the attack.
The vehicle used in the attack contained explosives, and an ISIS flag was also discovered inside.
