Time now to take a look at what’s happening in the world of sports.
Joining us in the studio is our sports editor Paul Neat.
Hello, Paul.
Hello.
Let’s start with Major League Baseball.
Kim Ha-seong’s hitting streak continues.
Yes, on Saturday he extended his hitting streak to eight games.
This helped his team the San Diego Padres make it five wins in a row beating the Boston Red Sox 11-1.
At Fenway Park in Boston, Kim Ha-seong started as the shortstop and seventh batter.
He went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.
In the fourth inning, he grounded out to third, but later singled in the fifth, scoring on Brett Sullivan’s home run.
He raised his batting average to point-227 with 65 hits in 286 at-bats.
He got another hit in Sunday’s game, and one RBI but the Padres lost 4-1 to the Red Sox.
To football now and Korea’s national football team.
It’s safe to say that the search for a new manager of the men’s team is not going all that smoothly.
No, and the person in charge of the search, Chung Hae-sung, has offered to resign.
He cited health reasons.
Late last week it was reported by KBS that Kim Do-hoon, who oversaw the two June qualifiers, had turned the manager’s job down.
Now, Lee Lim-saeng has been put in charge of the search and, according to Yonhap on Monday, is set to head to Europe this week to interview foreign coaches.
No names have been made public.
South Korea’s men’s team are next in action in September.
On Thursday last week, the draw was made for the third round of World Cup qualification.
Korea were drawn into Group B with Iraq, Oman, Palestine, Kuwait, and the team that knocked them out of the Asian Cup, Jordan.
The draw is seen as being somewhat favorable as Korea has avoided the likes of Iran, Japan, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.
But it does mean long trips to the Middle East when playing away from home.
Two of the national team’s key players, Son Heung-min and Kim Min-jae, are due to come to Korea later this month.
Yes, for the Coupang Play Series for a couple of exhibition games.
And tickets are sold out.
Tickets for Team K League, an all-star team from Korea’s domestic league, versus Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Spurs versus Bayern Munich, went on sale on Friday.
It didn’t take long for all tickets to be snapped up.
This is the third Coupang Play Series, and the second that Tottenham are taking part in having come to Korea in 2022.
Fans can vote for which K League players will take on Tottenham.
That game will be played on Wednesday 31st of July at 8 PM, and Spurs versus Bayern will be played on Saturday August 3rd -both at Seoul World Cup Stadium.
Last year, Team K League beat Atletico Madrid 3-2.
And finally, to Euro 2024.
What’s the latest?
Well, the holders Italy are out. They lost 2-0 to Switzerland on Saturday in the first Round of 16 match.
England were around 60 seconds from being knocked out by Slovakia.
But Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham scored a 95th-minute overhead kick to equalize and force extra time.
It was England’s first shot on target and canceled out Ivan Schranz’s goal in the first half.
Harry Kane scored a minute into extra time to win the tie and book a place in the quarters against Switzerland.
Host nation Germany are through, they beat Denmark 2-0, and Spain beat Georgia 4-1.
Coming up tonight, France take on Belgium and Portugal face Slovenia.
Then on Tuesday, Romania face the Netherlands and Austria face Turkiye.
Alright, thanks for that Paul.
See you next time.
Thanks.
